Moving Checklist
Changing locations can be an exciting endeavor! To make sure your move goes as smoothly as possible, just follow the Piece of Cake moving checklist. This comprehensive list will ensure that no step is overlooked during the process.
Sort your items for packing
Organize your items into 3 categories: Keeping, Donating, Tossing. If you haven't used something in over a year, you don't need it!
Create a notification list
Notify your service providers, financial institutions, etc. about your move so your accounts can be transferred or cancelled accordingly.
Reserve your elevator (for condo moves)
For condo moves, it is important to book the service elevator as soon as possible!
Start getting rid of things
Use up toiletries if you can, so you're not hauling half- empty bottles of shampoo or body wash with you. Also, start eating foods in your freezer and pantry that you don't want to bring to your new home. 2 WEEKS BEFORE MOVE
Get your moving & packing supplies
The X Men has all the moving and packing supplies you'll need for your move, including plastic bin rentals. If you live in the GTA, we'll even deliver and pick up from your door for free!
Start packing!
Start with belongings that you won't need anytime soon, such as seasonal and storage-locker items. Leave your everyday items for last and pack a bag with your essentials for those first few nights at your new home.
Label everything
Label the sides of boxes instead of the top so you can see them even if the boxes are stacked. On top of labelling specifics, it is also recommended to colour- code by room - it will save you a lot of time sorting through dozens of boxes at your new home!
Complete packing
You should have most of your packing complete by now. If you haven't started or you feel overwhelmed with the task, contact us and we will send an extra set of hands to accelerate your packing process.
Confirming Moving Arrangements
It is crucial to ensure that everything is confirmed for your moving day, from your movers to your items' final destination - be it your new home or a storage unit.
Don't forget the kids and pets
Moving day can be quite hectic, so it's best practice for safety reasons to arrange for a sitter to look after children and pets during crunch time.

- Clear all pathways for the move
- Ensure there is legal parking for movers
- Meet your movers and let them take care of the rest!
